Baptized the french Beastie Boys, the gang woke up the hip hop scene in France by introducing a large dose of humour and rock’n’roll lifestyle into their lyrics and abetted by the impulse of beatmaker friends like D.J. Pone, who went on to form Birdy Nam Nam, they mixed together the sounds of punk, dirty south and old school hip hop.
Matmatah

During their thirteen year existence, Matmatah lit up the French music scene and opened the doors for a new generation of musicians at a time when rock bands had become scarce in France. They quickly found their style and force in the music that had inspired them, creating a sound and an identity which was new but equally drawings its roots from the music of the 70’s.
